JHARSUGUDA, ODISHA - In a landmark announcement that positions India among global telecom leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled a comprehensive development package worth over ₹60,000 crore during his visit to Jharsuguda, Odisha. The initiative marks a significant milestone in India's journey toward technological self-reliance and infrastructure modernization across telecommunications, railways, education, and healthcare sectors.

The centerpiece of today's launch was the commissioning of 97,500 mobile 4G towers built entirely with indigenous technology at an unprecedented investment of ₹37,000 crore. This historic achievement catapults India into an exclusive group of five nations capable of manufacturing their own telecom equipment, joining Sweden, South Korea, China, and Finland in this technological elite.

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the strategic importance of this development, noting that the indigenous telecom infrastructure will significantly boost connectivity in remote areas, border regions, and Maoist-affected zones. The initiative includes more than 92,600 4G sites commissioned by BSNL and 18,900 sites funded under the Digital Bharat Nidhi, connecting approximately 26,700 previously unconnected villages.

The telecommunications revolution extends beyond mere connectivity, incorporating solar-powered green technology that creates India's largest cluster of environmentally sustainable telecom sites. This eco-friendly approach aligns with India's commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development goals while serving over 20 lakh new subscribers across the country.

Railway infrastructure received substantial attention with foundation stones laid for projects worth ₹1,700 crore. The comprehensive railway development includes the Sambalpur-Sarla Rail Flyover, doubling of the Koraput-Baiguda line, and the Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur line, significantly improving freight movement and passenger connectivity across Eastern India.

Education sector transformation features prominently with the announcement of ₹11,000 crore investment in expanding eight IITs. The initiative will create capacity for 10,000 new students over four years while establishing eight research parks, strengthening India's innovation ecosystem and technological capabilities for the future.

"In a historic feat, over 97,500 telecom towers across India would be commissioned. These have been built using local technologies and will boost connectivity in remote areas, border areas and those affected by Maoism."
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Official Statement)
